Welcome to my world

During the holidays in July 2011 I decided to teach myself to crochet. Iwanted to keep a diary of my journey but I'm hopeless at writing so I thought I'd try blogging.
So why not join me on my journey, friends are always welcome and the kettles'always hot. So come on in pull up a chair and enjoy the ride.

Blocking and haircuts

Well the poncho is pieced together, and looking really cute and colourful,  so today I decided to wash it and block it. It wasn't to hard and it was nice to just "play"with my work. Here are some pictures of the poncho on the block :)

The pattern has a beret to go with it and I think I will make that as well but that will have to wait till after the holiday's.
This Friday we are going to go away on holidays. This year we will be making our way up to Exmouth. We've never been up North before so it is all very exciting. I'm looking forward to some nice warm weather and lots of swimming and lazing around. Because we are going up North I decided that Maddy should really have a haircut. so this morning I took her to the dog groomer and the results are very different. The boys all laughed when they saw her. She does look rather funny but rather cute as well almost like a little doll.

The ribbons are very cute but didn't last long

Ebonee didn't know what I had brought home but they were soon playing together again.
I'm taking a few crochet patterns and materials with me so that on the long road trips I can keep busy who knows maybe I'll bring back a blanklet or two.
Hooroy for now

Crochet Dress

Well I've finished another project and i must say that I am very pleased with the results. I started this last last Thursday while I was waiting to see the Dr. it took me a few goes to get the bodice worked out and then I started working the skirt on back to front and had to pull out 4 rows, I thought it would look alright but it didn't :( I guess you learn from your mistakes. I can't remember where I got the pattern from but it is not my design.

A small project and waiting rooms

The other day while looking through some of the Blogs I follow I came upon this gorgeous pattern for a Granny Square Top . I decided that it would be a great project to do while I was in Perth waiting for the Doctor.
When I take a project with me some where I like to make sure I have started it before I go, or at least know what I have to do. So on Wednesday evening I decided to make a start, I ended up finishing one half. The next day I started the other side while waiting for my MRI and films and then finished it at Christine's place that night. Here is the end result, I think it is really cute.

I don't have a little girl to model my project and the boys weren't really interested ??!!.

I'm also working on a couple of other projects one is a baby blanket and the other is a really cute childs poncho. I got the pattern from Lion Brand Yarn I have made all the squares and am now joining them. I was making this with a little girl in mind but I don't think that's going to happen so I lost a bit of interest but I'll get back to it soon. Here are some photo's of my progress so far

I mentioned doing a project while waiting for the Dr well today I went to the Dr regarding my pituitary lump (prolactinoma) and got my results. The blood test showed that my prolactin levels are good but the "tumor" lump has stayed the same size as last year. So I will keep up with my medicine and will see the Dr again in 12 months. I was hoping that it would have shrunk more but it hasn't which is a pity and the Dr thinks that it may not get much smaller, but at least my Prolactin levels are good.
Well I really should go to bed.
Till next time and may God be with you always.

Oh what to call it

I was trying to think of a name for my blog I tried a few My hartyboys and 2 little girls, Ebonee & Maddy and others but it didn't seem right and then today I was folding the socks when I started grumbling about socks without pairs. That was my light bulb moment why not call my blog "socks without pairs" as this seems to be a very common refrain through out my day. It's starts in the morning with the boys complaining that they can find any pairs of socks in the wash basket and then it goes on to me complaining because I only get half a pair of sock in the wash etc etc. So hence the name.

Uncool Mittens

I decided to try my hand at crocheting a pair of fingerless mittens. The reason was that since Renske broke her hand her fingers get very cold so I thought I'd make some for her. I got this pattern fron Red Heart Yarn , I must admit the pattern is really nice it's the yarn that's a little uncool :)  Here is the end result

Don't you just love the models hand :)

They aren't anything flash but I hope they will help. I'll take some photos of the other work I've done so far and post them later. I did make two scarves for Nicole and Evelyn but I forgot to take a photo so maybe I will have to ask Christine to take a photo of the girls wearing them.
